Hot Smoke Barbeque Sauce


 

Smoky, sweet, tangy,…..all those things that you like in a barbeque sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 Large onion, coarsely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, coarsely chopped
  • ½ red bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 Tablespoon canola Oil
  • 2 Tablespoon Butter
  • ½ teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon ground chipotle pepper
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1 Tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 ½ Cup ketchup
  • 2 Tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 Tablespoon shredded horseradish
  • ¾ Cup dark brown sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons molasses
  • ¼ Cup cider vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon prepared mustard
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ Cup apple juice or cider
  • Salt & pepper to taste


Directions

  1. Sauté onions, bell pepper and garlic in oil and butter in a stock pot over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until tender.
  2. Sprinkle the cumin, chipotle pepper, celery seed and smoked paprika over the vegetables.
  3. Stir for 1 minute, until fragrant. Add the next ingredients stirring after each addition.
  4. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to low, and simmer 20 minutes or until thickened, stirring often. (if too thick add a little more apple juice).
  5. Use an immersion blender or food processor to make the sauce smooth. Good for chicken, ribs, and burgers.
