Well maybe not, but you will certainly look like you take it seriously. A barbeque apron may not seem necessary and maybe it’s not but you will soon get tired of being covered with rub, marinade, mustard, or brine on the front of your shirt.
I know because I got tired of it and started to look for anything to cover my front (especially since it is quite round and protrudes a bit). My wife suggested an apron and I used one of hers for a while but got annoyed at comments about dressing in pink even when I announced that it was a barbeque apron.
There are lots of good apron vendors out there but some of the best collections are in the cooking stores. So if you are inclined, invest in an apron and save wear and tear on your clothes and look the part of a serious cook.
